Shopping for the great Indian wedding can be confusing and exhausting. Especially when you have multiple days of functions and you want to be on top of your outfit-game; at both, the day & night function.

 

The colors to choose for a wedding are of crucial importance. You definitely don’t want to knock your sensibilities by landing up in inauspicious or inappropriate colours. Black and white are a strict ‘no-no’ at Indian weddings, especially for family and close relatives of the blessed couple. The ‘Haldi’ ceremony gives the bride her special glow. Traditionally, both the bride and groom wear yellow since it is both auspicious and stains don’t look so obvious.

 

Guests usually don’t wear yellow to the event. Men can pick colours like powder blue, beige, or lime green in kurtas paired with denims and Kolhapuri slippers or Rajasthani Mojari.

 

Avoid light colours that get stained easily for the ‘mehendi’ ceremony. Brides should avoid too much ‘bling’ as it is a day time affair. For the guest, feel free to choose any auspicious colour.

 

For ‘Sangeet’ the bride can experiment with some unconventional colours like a midnight blue sari or ‘lehenga’ in vintage rose. Guests can opt for more glam for the sangeet as they will dance the night away. Men can choose to don jodhpuris and sherwanis of deep rich colours.

 

For the pheras or actual wedding ceremony, the bride can select vibrant colours like orange, red, gold, maroon, or pink embellished with gold or silver. Fuschia adorned with gold sequins are also trending in bridal wear.

 

The couple should aim for a coordinated look.

 

Younger ladies at the wedding can opt for brighter colours like orange, pink, aquamarine, jade or lemon yellow.

 

If you are an elder close relative, opt for bright traditional colours like turquoise green, gold, indigo or yellow. Men can go for maroon, green or yellow add to the festive look.

 

The good news is that when you are buying clothes for the wedding, you have many textures and colours to choose from. But do keep the above guidelines in mind to get an A+ look amongst the lot.
