With the ceremonies and rituals, the couture is also playing a major role. Keeping the culture deep imbibed in the wedding, it’s no guess that people want to retain the authenticity while blending in the right amount of modern twist. Getting a look of today with the touch of yesterday, is what every girl is thinking her wedding attire to be right now!
So let’s look at the embroideries and work that not only looks majestic but also makes a bridal lehenga, worth staring!
Phulkari: A kind of embroidery prevalent in Punjab, Phulkari is an artwork that uses flowers as its inspiration. Meaning literally flower work, the work of Phulkari is done with silk floss on mostly coarse hand woven cotton fabric. You’d mostly find geometrical patterns surrounding the flower embroidery. Women adorn this beautiful work on special and joyous occasions.
Chikankari: Right from the land of Nawabs and Nazaqat, Lucknow, comes the famous embroidery, Chikankari. Believed to be established by Nur Jahan, wife of Mughal Emperor Jahangir, Chinkari is now famous in the whole of India. This meticulously done artwork is based on variety of fabric ranging from muslin, slik, chiffon to net, organza etc. The use of thread in this embroidery mostly goes in sync with the colour of fabric. The garments made out of this embroidery not only look sophisticated, but royal too!
Zardozi: Measuring a long distance, Zardozi came to India at the time of Mughal period. Hailing originally from Persia, Zardozi when broken in Persian means Zar- gold and dozi-work, together meaning gold work. Zardozi work uses golden and silver threads to create elaborate designs, embellished with stones and pearls. Having a bridal couture made using zardozi embroidery, is bound to direct all attention to you.
Rajasthani Patchwork: This bright and vivid artwork has a lot of fan following from people around the world. This simple yet alluring artwork involves stitching different cloth pieces in a decorative pattern for the topmost layer of clothing. This regal work looks very vibrant and amazing to look at.
Gota Patti: Using the applique technique, gota patti adds life to any fabric it attaches itself with. Mostly it’s the zari ribbon that is sewn onto the fabric to create the elaborated patterns. The width and what it is woven on, differs with the way one wants it to be. Gota creates a very rich, classy and royal look without being too heavy. Going ahead with this option can never be a bad idea.
